2021 has been marked as one of Sonoma County’s most exceptional vintages. A dry growing season resulted in a concentration of aromatics and phenolics. Though the growing season was shorter than average, there was a greater complexity of flavor development due to the heat. By choosing not to leaf we were able to moderate the temperature of individual micro-climates in the vineyards. As potentially one of Northern California’s greatest vintages, we raise a glass to this harvest.

This vintage has notes of violets, marionberry and an abundance of fresh plums aromas. Marionberry aromas best describe this Merlot with sweetness and tart at the same time.

The Merlot wines used in this blend were sourced from Alexander Valley from high elevation vineyards bringing tension and power. Picked at the peak of ripeness, the Alexander Valley Merlot is an example of a well-structured wine with complex flavors and aromas. Grapes grown in the mountains have a more powerful and phenolic-driven structure due to water availability and location of the vines.
