Sauvignon Blanc has become a popular varietal and hard to find. Challenges related to weather resulted in very low yields for the past two vintages. In 2022 we were fortunate to source grapes from two vineyards, Meyer in Anderson Valley and Luchesinger in Lake County. The Meyer Vineyard is located in the hills above Boonville in the warmer end of the valley and has been part of our program for several vintages. Lake County has become synonymous with great Sauvignon Blanc, so we sought a bit to add to our blend, designating this vintage as North Coast.
Fermentation started in a stainless-steel tank and aged for 4 months in neutral French oak barrels to allow stirring on the yeast lees. This helped to soften and enhance fullness on the palate. Malolactic fermentation was discouraged to preserve fresh fruit flavors. This wine shows notes of citrus blossom, cream, and tropical fruit. Flavors of lemon zest and fig, with musqué and flinty notes on the palate followed by crisp acidity on the finish.
